WHERE TO BUY EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

The following vendors are listed here as they offer a variety of services that come very close to meeting all the equipment needs of the camping part of scouting. Listing these vendors in no way endorses their products or services. We list and critique them only as an introduction to their existence and an alternative for your consideration in making purchases.

We think it a mistake to rush out and start purchasing everything you need at once. We want to make you aware of some issues for you to consider:

  1. If you rush out quickly to buy, you just might make some simple but costly mistakes that could be avoided if you can borrow or rent for a while until you get a clearer idea of what exactly fits best with the troop and your needs.
  2. If you were to calculate all of the gear taken by one scout or adult, the cost would be significant if made within one month or two. Most scouts and adults slide into the backpacking program by making purchases a little at a time. Some items are available to you as a free "rental" from the troop quartermaster. This includes tent, stove and fuel.
  3. Below are listed three vendors that offer gear rental.
